Default Mark of Pain bug?

While doing some Ascalon missions with a friend, I noticed my mark of pain, despite being cast, was having no effect on any of the monsters.

Did I miss the memo about the skill being tweaked or.. ?

To activate Mark of Pain you need to be dealing "physical" damage, if I remember correctly - I don't have that one unlocked yet so I can't check on it. That means damage from a sword, axe, bow, or hammer, basically, and even then you could be doing elemental damage with one. If you're just using a wand, you won't be triggering Mark of Pain as most wands already have typed damage (this didn't use to be the case or, at least, weapon damage regardless of it's "type" always counted as physical).

Well, I'm around Druid's.. whatever right now, and it's been working fine until then.

If my sword does fire-type damage, mark of pain becomes useless?

Just to be picky and clarify:

Mark of Pain - Hex Spell [10 2 30]
For 30 seconds, whenever target foe takes physical damage, Mark of Pain deals 10-34 shadow damage to adjacent enemies.


It's any physical damage against the foe, from anyone not just you, so I use this to soften up targets that are lined up while the group tank beats on one.

I realise that if you're playing something like N/W or W/N with flamy swords of death this may not help you too much
